But, I have already figured out that I like the Jazzy Zappa (this album) much better than the stupid funny Zappa (Freak Out! and others). There are no political agendas here. ... ZAPPA, FRANK - Freak Out! (1966) 2.5 stars really. RIO is normally not my thing. But, a lot of people were saying that Zappa was really a great example of Jazz Rock fusion, so I thought I would check him out. This particular album is definitely not Jazz Rock fusion! ... ZAPPA, FRANK - Chunga's Revenge (1970) This one should rank right up there with _Hot Rats_. Mostly instrumental, it has Frank Zappa's guitar at its edgiest. Also, this album has aged well compared to other Zappa albums of this period in his career. Not much to add here other ... ZAPPA, FRANK - Roxy and Elsewhere (1974) A superb live album from mister Zappa. I like all the numbers except the last one. But the other nine are the best he ever recorded (in my opinion). There is humor and great musicianship. And the band fits so nice together. ... |
