Album: Overnite Sensation (#17, 9/7/73)
These parts are based on the original version of Montana (no whipping
floss here!). I've notated the intro and the other interesting melodies
of the tune but the highlight is the Interlude section. While performed
vocally on the album, it (mostly) translates well to the guitar but is
really fun to play, so try it! As with any TAB there is no rhythmic
notation so you HAVE to listen to the song to get it right. Watch out
for the groups of five in the last bar!

This album gets a three star rating for the same reason that Act I does: you need the compilation of all three acts together for the true experience of this story. On its own, Acts II & III is a pretty good Zappa album, beginning with ...ZAPPA, FRANK - Joe's Garage, Act I (1979)
I give the compilation disc of all three acts four stars but the two individual parts on three stars each? Preposterous. In truth, however, there is a good reason for that. The problem with these releases being split is a matter of ... ZAPPA, FRANK - Chunga's Revenge (1970)
One of Zappa's stronger early albums. This album blends the focus of Hot Rats with the early psychedelic insanity of the Mothers music. So parts of the album play like straightforward quality music, while other parts sound like little ... ZAPPA, FRANK - You Are What You Is (1981)
I hate to say it, but this album severely disappoints me. It has all the indicators of potential. We've got a Frank Zappa album, we've got Steve Vai again, we've got trumpets and saxophones and clarinets and all sorts of odd instruments ... ZAPPA, FRANK - Joe's Garage, Acts I, II and III (1987)
I guess I'm going to review this compilation, as such, because it's the only CD version I could seem to find. I dare say this is the height of Frank Zappa's ridiculousness, which is a very dangerous statement to those who know his ... |
